Building partnerships that champion the Gospel across the Amazon.
A Christian Missionary Organization
"How then will they call on him in
whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom
they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone
preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are
sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach
the good news!" Romans 10:14,15
More than 30 years preaching the Word of God in the Amazon
Everything was born of a dream to support local ministries that would otherwise have no representation. Also being able to make a difference in the lives of people who live far from everything and everyone. Without the attention of doctors, dentists and minimal resources such as basic sanitation, treated water, etc.
In ministry for more than 30 years, AMOR is a interdenominational organization dedicated to expanding the Kingdom of God in the Amazon Valley through partnership missions. We are a bridge between the local church in the USA and the church along the banks of the Amazon river valley.
AMOR (Amazon Mission Organization) - was founded in 1986 by Dr. Richard E. Walker - called to missions while attempting to pastor a local church in the USA, discovered in the Brazilian Amazon the place to fulfill that ministerial calling, abandoning all his achievements and privileges ; a result of long years of efforts and studies at Ouachita Baptist University [www.obu.edu], Southwestern Theological Seminary [swbts.edu] and Luther Rice [www.lutherrice.edu), which allowed him to pastor churches in Oklahoma, Georgia, Kentucky and Florida. He decided to counteract the expectation of many, and chose to hear the fervent voice of the Holy Spirit of God in his heart. Departing with the whole family to Brazil, he devoted himself exclusively to making disciples and training pastors and planting churches along the Amazon river valley.
The development came through the efforts of the churches in the USA, who also joined Dr. Richard in this cause, sending volunteers to serve people across cultures. These teams serve in ministries such as evangelism, discipleship and church planting, VBS(Vacation Bible School) medical, dental, clean water projects. However, Dr. Richard's passion was serving local pastors, and through that passion the RBBI (River Bank Bible Institute - a Bible school/Conference) was born. Over the decades these ministries have been a channel of salvation for thousands of riverbank families who have also been discipled and have learned to share the Gospel with their local community.
Dr. Richard E. Walker stood firm in his conviction to reach the unreached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the local church, regardless of the cost and efforts he would have to perform. He ministered beyond all established perimeters, for he had a firm conviction in his heart that "People will not believe the words of your mouth until they feel the touch of your hands."
All the ministerial efforts that Dr. Richard exercised, moved by God's love for the Amazon, became firmly rooted. The legacy of this trajectory lived through the second and now third generation of missionaries and leaders of his family. AMOR continues to venture ever deeper into the still-unreached regions of the Amazon valley, always beyond the perimeter.
"Love is the unsolicited gift of the best you have on behalf of another, regardless of response."
